Restructure vs Redundancy – What’s the Difference?
The words “restructure” and “redundancy” are often used together, but they aren’t the same thing.
A restructure changes the way an organisation operates. Teams may be merged, reporting lines changed or roles redesigned.
A redundancy occurs when a role is no longer required.
Not every restructure results in redundancies.
Likewise, not every redundancy follows a major restructure.
If your workplace announces organisational change, avoid assuming the outcome.
Instead:
Ask questions.
Understand the proposed changes.
Update your resume.
Begin documenting your achievements.
Preparation gives you options, whatever the outcome.
